The United Reformed Church, which is developing its own green agenda, has Kindly agreed to host and organise a Green fair and Eco summit at the church on Saturday 10th September. There will be a full programme of speakers and stalls from local eco groups and traders. if you would like to...

Hurrah we have an orchard

Posted by home grown hornsea on Monday, March 12, 2012,
It was a gloriously sunny day yesterday as we planted the 80 fruit trees we have bought with the funding from The Lions.  The site looks owned and loved now and the trees were well watered in thanks to some ingenious ideas involving a bathtub and a trailer.  All in all a very succesful day. Many thanks to all those who came to help.

The hedgerow is planted :)

Posted by home grown hornsea on Friday, February 17, 2012,

We spent a damp day planting an edible hedgerow at the end of January.  Thank you to all who turned up, it was a really good showing.  On March 11th we will be planting the big trees thank you very much to the Lions for a grant which has made this possible.  I am hopeful for some fruit next year but apparently this is quite optimistic!  Always look on the bright side.

Hornsea 2032

Posted by home grown hornsea on Wednesday, January 18, 2012,
Wow what a lot of people turned up.  Who knew Hornsea had so many talented and interesting people?  I've had lots of discussions since then with lots of people, all providing food for thought.  We didn't quite get on to Hornsea in 2032 (I blame the organisers!) but we did get ideas and enthusiasm and such a lot of lovely food it has to be declared a success.  Fingers crossed the planting goes as well.

Paperwork .....aaargh

Posted by home grown hornsea on Friday, January 6, 2012,
We are nearly ready to launch our transition initiative on Hornsea.  We have the Town Hall booked and some local businesses have kindly offered food.  After much red tape we are hopefully also ready to begin planting a community orchard.  You wouldn't believe how much paperwork there is to plant a few trees!  For a while I was starting to feel beaten by the bureaurocracy but now it feels like we have achieved something.

Where has the summer gone?

Posted by home grown hornsea on Wednesday, November 23, 2011,
Well it's winter and what's been happening.  We had a stall with Densholme farm selling local salads at the carnival, but the grey day and seriously good competition meant it wasn't quite the sucess we had hoped for.  Good news though we have been awarded a grant from the Cooperative community fund and an edible trees pack from the woodland trust.  So we are al systems go with our plans to set up a community orchard in Hornsea.  Visit the what's on page for details of our launch event or get ...

herb omelettes

Posted by home grown hornsea on Sunday, June 19, 2011,
The Home Grown Hornsea group have been busy.  We've had stalls at the URC garden fair and the food festival at Densholme Farm.  We served up herb omelettes and green smoothies and ended up talking to lots of people about our aims.  We will also be represented at the Carnival in Hornsea.
As a group we also had an inspirational visit to Todmorden and were shown round the various projects undertaken by Incredible Edibles there.

technology baby steps

Posted by home grown hornsea on Saturday, April 2, 2011,
Hopefully today will be the day this site gets published.  We need to start getting publicity and have flyers and posters ready to go that just need the web address adding.  This is all very new to me though.  I know I will still be able to edit the site once I publish so I may just have to go for it.

Having met a couple of times we have decided to start Hornsea's transition with food.  Our aim is to get Hornsea growing as much of it's food as we can.  It feels really good to have some positive goals.
