- Welcome: As acting chairman Paul Hanson welcomed everyone and delivered a brief history of Home Grown Hornsea from earliest days establishing the Community Orchard to the present. The latter part of this presentation was the acquisition of the Kelpies Wholefoods premises.
- There were apologies from John Rodgers and Suzanne Keam.
- The minutes of the 2016 AGM were read to those present.
- There were no matters arising from the above minutes.
- The Chairman’s report gave further details of the development of the Kelpies Wholefoods shop project and the setbacks faced by the charity’s attempts to open a cafe and meeting rooms within a local cancer charity’s premises. The said charity had management problems and delayed the opening of HGH’s plans by over a year. Fortunately monies invested in that project were recovered and used to establish Kelpies Wholefoods.
- The treasurer’s report showed that HGN is in a strong position and able to continue planned projects on course. Details :

7 Election of officers: It was proposed and agreed that the three existing officers had better strengths in different roles. Alan Tharrat as Chairman, Paul Hanson as Treasurer and Thom Strid as Secretary.
8 Shop and Therapy Room: This was the main discussion of the meeting and the one which welcomed the greatest input from volunteers and involved therapists. The general feeling expressed was that in order to ensure the future success of the Kelpies Project a lot of work had yet to be done to bring the premises up to contemporary professional standards. In particular therapist Freddy Jacquin was was the most forthright in his offers of professional advice and practical help for which the trustees were very grateful. In brief a list of targets was drafted and roles assigned to ensure that these tasks and targets came to fruition:

Fit and plumb 2 separate sinks
Install under sink hot water unit

9. Community Orchard : It was reported that getting volunteers to help was difficult but that over 100 fruit trees, the edible hedgerow and fruit bushes continued to be healthy and fruitful. Thom Strid reported that he was in the process of getting funding to buy a lot more equipment for volunteers to use including an apple press for local people to use. He also added that he was intending to link activities with local gardeners groups to increase the number of volunteers.
10. Tree Planting: Alan Tharrat was able to report that the concept of planting a tree for every child in Hornsea was put to the Civic Society who have agreed to undertake a joint project. Progress has been made in terms of securing land and permissions from Hornsea Council to move forward with planting in the town’s main park, Hall Garth, in the spring. Another site in the town had also been identified but that is requiring dealings with the East Riding County Council which will take longer.
11 Any other business: There were no issues forthcoming
