Minutes of 2016 AGM

Orchard

The chairman reported that the year had been a positive one in terms of the health of the trees and harvests. There were now over 100 healthy fruit trees, plenty of soft fruit bushes and the edible hedgerow was almost mature. The struggle to attract enough volunteers was still an issue as were disagreements over the management of the orchard. Some volunteers had wanted to see a more conventional style orchard and didn’t agree with the policy of keeping it semi – wild to provide wildlife habitats.

It was agreed to strive for a happy compromise in which paths were kept clear for good access. Alan agreed to help by using his industrial strimmer in the Spring and Summer to keep the paths clear.

Health Food cafe

The Pop Up Restaurants at the Floral Hall were proving successful with all tickets sold for the first three. This had led to the idea of a collaborative healthy eating project between the school and our chefs Katy and Jeff Wheelwright . Thom agreed to take this project forward.

It was hoped that the permanent health food cafe and shop would soon be ready to open as part of the Horne C Cancer Charity shop on Newbegin. The room was being prepared and equipment bought.

Tree Planting Project

The chairman introduced the ‘One Tree per Child’ project which had been launched in Bristol with the suggestion that we might be able to replicate it here by planting trees in the park and along the viaduct with the schools. Alan agreed to take this project further.

Election of Officers

Following the resignation of two former trustees Thom Strid was elected as Treasurer and Alan Tharrat was elected as Secretary. Paul Hanson was re-elected as Chair
